This excursion is definitely in one of the most suggestive and fascinating places in Montefeltro: Parco del Sasso Simone and Simoncello!
Departing from Carpegna, a town famous for its ‘prosciutto’, we first walk along countryside paths around the town, then inside one of Europe's largest Turkey oak forests. We arrive up to the Due Sassi (Two Stones), two rounded limestone blocks which, resting on the clay hill and gullies, create a unique landscape.
Once on the Sasso Simone we are able to admire the remains of the ancient ‘Citta’ del Sole’ (City of the Sun), a fortress city established by the Florence Medici which was short-lived, and the surrounding panorama which spans across three regions: Marche, Tuscany and Romagna!
The Sasso Simone and Simoncello Park is in fact divided between these three regions in fact we often cross the borders between Marche, Tuscany and Emilia Romagna.
